In a marketplace of sellers and buyers, successful sellers will almost always try to spread the word in order to get more buyers to come into the marketplace. They naturally will not tell it to sellers because they increase the competition but be sure that other sellers are always trying to see and know their peers are performing. The way business is taught includes competitive analysis which is good in the point of view of a marketplace owner. A seller who knows that one of his competitors use one marketplace as a channel will also try to use whether this competitor is successful in this marketplace or not. In an early-stage marketplace, you must understand each participant's natural behavior and build a traction plan according to these behaviors.
