when you build server applications the clean production server must be always there ready to go into production when you want it to be so production-ready is the state that defines the signal of the software to be released by pushing a button, or by clicking on it, or by a simple touch or just by saying PUBLISH
It could be a simple virtual machine on the software engineer's computer that can have every kind of operating system.
