We as human beings are better at pattern fitting than we are at pattern interrupts because we are so afraid of being surprised and by being in an environment that we are not familiarized with. We got this kind of behavior from our grandparents who used to live in hostile areas that obliged them to be always on alert for casting the coming dangers. This goes as far as comparing ourselves with others, following the path that others had taken without being in front of the danger. This behavior just by the effect of evolution ended being programmed into our cognitive system. We still act like that by fitting the pattern, by imitating others by identifying ourselves to others just because for us it safer than going into the unknown.
With the emergence of the internet and artificial intelligence, this cognitive side effect gets amplified with the born of personalization which is in fact just a uniformization process. Uniformization because when an online platform suggests something to you, it is almost always based on you and others it thinks are like you. If you take the recommendation without comparing it with alternatives, you just will end up being like others. Wearing the same kind of shoes, reading the same kind of books, reading the same kind of news.
This is the process of culture uniformization that clusters people in buckets and that started years before the internet with TVs and Hollywood movies but the internet as an aggregation of micro media has a design that makes this uniformization process more strong and fast.
